Criminal Injuries Compensation

Before 1964, if you were unlucky enough to be a victim of a criminal attack, you had little chance of compensation.  You could sue your assailant of course, if you knew his name and address, but it was usually pointless to do so.

Since 1964 the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) has had the responsibility of administering a scheme under which the victims of violent crime can claim compensation from the state.  Current figures indicate that about 76,000 applications are made each year, and about £200,000,000 is paid out yearly to claimants.

To put it very generally, the major requirement for eligibility if you want to claim is that you must not be to any extent to blame yourself for the injuries.  It is not necessary for your attacker to be tried and found guilty, or necessarily even identified, but you must have co-operated with the police.    If you are eligible, compensation can range from quite small amounts up to a maximum of £500,000.

We have many years' experience in maximising claims for compensation for the victims of crime.  In suitable cases we can act for any claimant on a no-win-no-fee basis.
